When I purchased my Magnavox DVD Recorder, Model #ZV427MG9, I had such high hopes for the product. I had anticipated using it to transfer home videos, as well as to produce back up copies of already purchased video products.

I purchased my Magnavox DVD Recorder at Wal-Mart in January 2010 for $178.

I used mine primarily for DVD play. The performance of the DVD player and recorder itself are outstanding. The player itself was capable of reading severely scratched discs that I thought were

      pretty much gone forever.

The instructional manual is clear and easy to follow, featuring both written instruction and diagram.

Unfortunately, this product has a severe flaw.

I tested out the VHS function of the unit by playing two video cassettes that I own. The video cassettes themselves are somewhat old, but have rarely been played. The third time that I went to play a VHS cassette is when I learned that the Magnavox DVD Recorder, Model #ZV427MG9 is little more than a $178 paperweight.

      When I ...

      • went to play the third VHS cassette, the player stopped after 7 seconds, ejected the cassette, and the power switched itself off. As of July 2010, I have owned this DVD Recorder for 7 months, and half of the element quit working after a mere 4 hours of use. Because the VHS does not function, the recording element has been rendered completely useless, essentially causing me to pay $178 for a DVD player; which I could have purchased as a stand alone unit
at approximately 1/5 of the price!

I am very very disappointed in this product. After doing research online, I have discovered that there are many consumer complaints in regards to the different models of Magnavox DVD Recorders and Magnavox VHS Cassette players. They are primarily similar in nature. This was my first experience with Magnavox products.

I feel angry about the poor quality of this product. Purchasing it was a mistake that I will not repeat.

I will never recommend a single Magnavox brand product to anyone.
