I had been looking for a deep fryer for a while and finally found the Rival 3-Liter Deep Fryer in the color black at the local Walmart store to be the best choice. I paid $43.46 for the unit and anxiously brought it home to test it. I also purchased a rather large bottle of cooking oil to add to the deep fryer. When I got home, I quickly read through the instructions and began the adventure that was short lived for the Rival 3-liter deep fryer. This would turn out to be just like all those other useless kitchen appliances that I had

sitting in the closet never to be used again.

This fryer has a fold up handle that sounds ideal for saving kitchen counter space. The problem with it is that I ended up with oil splatter up and down my arms due to this handle. The handle was difficult to get to go up when I wanted to take the basket out of the fryer. The handle suddenly decided to release and the basket jumped up and then back down into the oil before I even realized what was happening. The oil spattered all over the kitchen counter, my hand and arm. I decided that ...

      • I didn’t like this fryer at that very moment.

I was attempting to cook fried chicken in the Rival 3-Liter deep fryer when this happened. The chicken didn’t turn out well. I get a much better result from putting it in a traditional frying pan. There was something off about the taste as well. The taste was incredibly horrible though the chicken was well-done enough but not overdone. The taste was not the greatest though. I normally can’t cook well, but fried chicken was never a problem for me. I thought that maybe it was just the fact that it was meat so I attempted to

fry French fries in the fryer as well. The exact same taste was in the French fries and I decided this was definitely not a good fryer.

I would not purchase this product again. It was one of the worst mistakes in small kitchen appliances that I had ever made. I cleaned the fryer out and put it on a top shelf in the closet never to be seen again. I would not recommend the Rival 3-liter for anyone. It was bad enough to get the burns from it, but then to have bad tasting food on top of it made it a waste of $43.
