I give this movie five stars. After leaving the theater, I wiped the tears out of my eyes and headed to the nearest place I could buy the soundtrack.

Don’t mistake me, this is not a sappy movie, but it does pull on your emotions.

After a month of listening to the

      soundtrack, it still moves me.

Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy give stellar performances.

Beyonce can sing, but her acting could use some work.

Of course, this being an ensemble cast, her role is fairly minor and does not detract from quality of the movie.

The movie takes place in Detroit and follows ...

      • the movement of a trio of singers to stardom.

The Dreamettes begin their career very young, their big break comes when they are offered the position of back-up singers to Jimmy Early (played by Eddie Murphy).

They face the trials of being African-American performers trying to make it in a difficult career.

As their careers heat up, so does the rivalry within the group.

If you think you don’t like Movie Musicals, give this one a try.

Compare it to Walk the Line, Ray or Moulin Rouge.

Just try not to sing too loud in the theater.

This one had the audience clapping and cheering at the end.
