Chicken is one of the most inexpensive and easily found meat in this country. I like chicken quite well and on occasion will go to an actual chicken restaurant to eat. One of the restaurants that I enjoy personally, is Popeye’s Chicken. It is much different than Church’s and KFC, because it offers sort of a Cajun feel to the food. The location that I visit is only a few blocks away from my home in El Paso. The seating is not that great, because there are only about ten tables. The tables are really close together and don’t give you enough elbow room to move around. Every time I order I try to get chicken, a biscuit and a side. The counter person at this restaurant is never enthusiastic, and seems to want to be somewhere else. I get greeted,

but they are barely there when speaking to me. After making my order, it is time to play the waiting game at most restaurants. Popeye’s is fairly quick at putting out orders. I’ve never waited more than 5 minutes for my order, no matter what it may be.

The food here is good, but just between me and you, I don’t really go for the chicken. The chicken is good, seasoned well, and always crisp. However, it can be dry at times, especially if it has been sitting out under the lamp all day. When the chicken is fresh, it has a little more juice, but not as much as I would like. The flavor has a bit of spice, but nothing that anyone can’t handle. Though the actual pieces of chicken aren’t’ that juicy, the chicken strips are. I love them,

      • because they almost melt in my mouth. It is so good. My favorite item on the menu is the red beans and rice. The rice is cooked to perfection and the beans are tender. The seasoning is perfect. That is why I like the wrap that they have that consists of a chicken strip and the red beans and rice. The biscuits they serve are regular old biscuits. There is nothing special about them. A matter of fact they are kind of dry too. So the key to eating at this restaurant is to have plenty to drink handy.

They also sell chicken sandwiches and other sides like macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. This restaurant is only good if you are a true chicken lover. The prices are good and that is one of the reasons I like to go

there. On Tuesdays you can get a leg and a thigh for only 99 cents. The rest of the week there is a 2.99 meal deal of the day. It includes a main item along with fries and a drink. So if you are on a budget, Popeye’s is the place to eat. After eating, there are trash cans, where you can dump your own trash and leave the restaurant. This is a good place for a quick lunch or dinner. It is not where you would want to go on a date or take kids to have fun. They also offer drive thru service, but I wouldn’t be caught dead using a drive thru. All in all this restaurant is okay and can hold its own. I still don’t prefer it to other well known chicken restaurants, but it is tasty and cheap.
