  • Personally, I think the reason why the ad is such a hit is because her look is so classy and yet it is very achievable
  • So considering my experience with the Chanel brand of lipstick, part of me was already prepared to be disappointed with the product as the other part of me hoped that it would be some sort of a breakthrough especially with all the hype about this particular line and shade
  • Knowing how costly Chanel lipsticks are, I was a bit on the fence about spending my hard earned dough for this particular shade so I waited a bit until I was sent on a business trip to Singapore and there at the Changi Airport, I bought a tube of this lipstick for 36.70sgd

When the Chanel Rouge Coco line of lipsticks came out earlier this year, I was really excited to try on the shade of Ruban Rose and even as I used as basis the inaccurate color depiction of my monitor, I felt that the shade suited me better. However, after hearing so many people rave about the “universally flattering” shade of Mademoiselle, my curiosity was piqued. And so, I joined the millions of people who bought into the whole “Vanessa Paradis wore it in the Chanel lipstick ad” thing. Personally, I think the reason why the ad is such a hit is because her look is so classy and yet it is very achievable. In any event, my concern was that I have tried Chanel (Rouge Hydrabase) lipsticks before and among the lipstick brands in its price range, Chanel is probably my least favorite. In terms of wear and coverage, I really prefer YSL,

Dior and Guerlain more. In terms of wearability of shade however, Clinique is always a no-fail choice. So considering my experience with the Chanel brand of lipstick, part of me was already prepared to be disappointed with the product as the other part of me hoped that it would be some sort of a breakthrough especially with all the hype about this particular line and shade. So much cheaper compared to buying it at the department store here.

For me, the Chanel Rouge Coco line is worth the wait. It was such an improvement from all their other lipsticks ...

      • in terms of texture, packaging, shade choices and wear. The other Chanel lipsticks I have tried in the past left my lips feeling dry. This on the other hand felt creamier but still not as creamy as Rouge Dior or the YSL Rouge Volupte. Although its case looks similar to the other Chanel Rouge Hydrabase lipstick I have tried, I immediately sensed a difference about it as it seemed to be heavier. I later learned that the difference can be attributed to the materials used. The Chanel Rouge Coco is presented in the same black case with gold ring but whereas the Hydrabase is presented in a plastic case, the Rouge Coco used metal. There is also a remarkable difference between the two in terms of comfort. The Rouge Hydrabase is extremely drying on the lips but the Rouge Coco felt light and comfortable. The shades of Rouge Coco are also very wearable,
        particularly the Mademoiselle shade.

My skin is NC30 and on me, Chanel Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle showed up as a combination of red orange, brown and a hint of pink. It’s hard to describe the color but suffice it to say that it is a great everyday shade. I wish it had more of the pink and less of the orange though. The orange is a bit prominent and although it’s still a beautiful shade, when it comes to pink I’d much prefer Clinique’s Long Last lipstick in All Heart. It’s cheaper and its pink shade looks more flattering on me. Like other Chanel lipsticks, this one also comes with a fragrance but it’s not that strong and it doesn’t really bother me. I will rate this product on the shade and give it an 8. I will still buy from the Chanel Rouge Coco line but I’ll probably choose a “pinker” shade next time. One Mademoiselle is enough.
