We recently discovered that one of our cats is allergic to chicken. He is two years old and, whereas he used to be able to eat any commercial cat food with no problems, over time he has built up an intolerance to anything containing chicken or chicken by-products,ingestion of which causes his eyes to get red and irritated, his skin to get itchy, and his lips to get swollen.

Unfortunately, almost all commercial cat food seem

to contain some sort of chicken, including ones that list fish as a prime ingredient.

Most of the few brands of cat food that are chicken-free are also astronomically priced.

After a long search,I finally located Wysong Anergen in a local health food store.

It was only a few dollars more than our regular brand of cat food,chicken-free,and touted to be extremely healthy and nutritious.

Unfortunately not one of our cats, including the ...

      • one with the allergy, believe it to be edible.

Their reaction when offered the Wysong kibble is one of shocked disbelief.

        I can’t really blame them.

This stuff has a really odd odor, not appetizing at all.

Lamb is listed as the first ingredient, and fish oil has also been added, but possibly any trace of a meaty-type odor that would encourage any cat to eat it has been obliviated by all the ground

oat groats, ground flax seeds, wheat grass powder, kelp, garlic, sage extract, artichoke and kelp thrown into the mix.

Actually, the list of ingredients reads like a diet that would appeal more to my finches than my cats!In any case, this product would have been a complete waste of money if I hadn’t mixed it in with our dog’s regular kibble.

He isn’t as particular as the cats about what he eats, but he wouldn’t deign to eat the Wysong by itself either.
