  • With the brother a bit uneasy about stabbing his relative, especially since he left the knife behind with his fingerprints on them, he is then murdered as well, only his hit man set it up to look like a suicide, which is why the show is titled as it is

A young Richard Bull, known for playing the doctor on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and later the store owner in Little House on the Prairie, plays an ex-mobster who is murdered by his brother in the Suicide episode of Highway Patrol. Bull’s role is pretty brief, but he has a couple of very strong scenes. He stood out, and all in a good way.

      From 1958, this 31st episode

from the show’s third season doesn’t stop with just that one killing, either. With the brother a bit uneasy about stabbing his relative, especially since he left the knife behind with his fingerprints on them, he is then murdered as well, only his hit man set it up to look like a suicide, which is why the show is titled as it is.

Broderick Crawford starred as Chief Dan Mathews who heads up ...

      • the highway patrol and leads the investigation. He has to deliver the news of the murder to the wife. I’m not sure that was the best acting. The wife knew it was coming, but I didn’t like the portrayal.

Mark Dunhill was the murderous brother. I found him to be rather annoying. Marjorie Stapp portrayed the wife. She was better in her last scenes than she was in

        her first couple.

Now as for the big scene at the train depot, it was really great that they shot this at the depot. I liked the location shoot. However, the scene was ridiculous. Mathews just starts firing his weapon, never mind the civilians who were all around.

There’s more to the staging of that scene, but it was just outright stupidity. It took all the good out of the location shoot.
