From 1945, Doll Face is a fairly fun motion picture about the entertainment industry, including Burleycue, better known as burlesque. Vivian Blaine plays Doll Face Carroll, who is trying to get out of burlesque and into the legitimate theater and such, but no one will give her the chance.

The one thing that is great about Doll

Face is that she isn’t ashamed of her burlesque career. She’s proud of it, so I like that slant.

It’s the same for her manager of sorts, Mike Hannegan, played very nicely by Dennis O’Keefe. When her aspirations appear to be squashed, he comes up with a new idea. Mike convinces a writer to ghostwrite Doll Face’s story, only the writer is more interested in the subject than Mike realizes.

Also in this picture is Perry Como, who plays Nicky Ricci. This is honestly the most I’ve ever liked Perry Como. I can’t believe it. I liked his music, his look, and, gulp, even his acting. My goodness.

Who knew that before he adopted that lazy look, he was right there in the swing of things.

Then there was Carmen Miranda as Chita Chula. Her part included a great joke about her becoming another Carmen Miranda, who Chita makes fun of. I love that she could make fun of herself and that the movie

      addresses her unique look.

Naturally, the love triangle emerges. What didn’t work is how quickly, though, Doll Face turns to the writer, even after declaring to Mike that there was nothing going on. I just don’t like those quick turnarounds.

In the end, everyone is happy, though. Overall, the movie does entertain and is quite enjoyable to watch.
