In 2010, the History Channel presented Jaws: The Inside Story, which is a great look at the making of Jaws, the 1975 movie hit. There are a wealth of new interviews and ones from the past that work together to present a really unique view of this film that captivated a nation, and perhaps much of the world.

The thing is, I’m not really a Jaws fan, but, yes, I did go see it. In fact, I recall

being one of those female types who had a great time clinging on the boy’s arm who I’d gone to the movie with. From that point of view, I adore Jaws. I’ve never forgotten that fun evening, even though the movie itself was quite scary.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this documentary is the joy on Steven Spielberg’s face and in his voice as he recollected so many instances of the filming, good and bad.

      • His version of the conflict between Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss was awesome. Then there was the story about Shaw and the tale of the Indianapolis.

The comments by Dreyfuss were insightful, especially getting his perspective on the Shaw situation as well as his negative remarks to media after the shoot had ended.

Even for the casual fan; no, not a fan, the casual viewer of Jaws, this special is a must see. The discussion on the musical

score, for example, is something everyone can identify with and understand.

One of the funniest moments for me was at the end when Spielberg, John Milius, and numerous others talked about their fear of the water and how they either don’t go swimming in the ocean or out as far as they used to. Milius talked about Spielberg’s belief that he’s a marked man, that the sharks are just waiting for him. It’s a riot.

See this special; it’s well worth it.
