iPhone. The best smartphone in the world. The iPhone, a multi-touch capable phone created by Apple, is like a portable phone, MP3 player, eBook reader, and camera all in one with more features. It is the swiss army knife of gadgets and technology. In its 4th generation, the iPhone has developed over time to become the best smartphone currently in the world. What makes this the best, you ask? Well, it just has about everything you would ever need in a cell phone plus more!

Let’s begin with its hardware. The iPhone 4 has an all new design than previous generations of the iPhone. The design has changed from a curved back to a solid glass black. Like Steve Jobs said during his keynote, the closest device that comes to compare with it is the Leica camera. It looks and feels much more luxurious. I can support that for I have been lucky to get my hands on one of them. It feels much more sturdy and suitable for business. It truly distinguishes itself as a smartphone. There are very

few buttons on the phone: there is a button on top that acts as a sleep/wake toggle, a volume rocker on the left side, above it is a silent switch, and finally a “home” button on the front display. All buttons are of great quality, like all Apple products, for I have never had any problems with buttons on my iPhone. The phone sports two cameras; a 5 mega-pixel camera on the back with LED flash and a front-facing VGA quality camera. Other than that, the iPhone is pure glass and stainless steel.

Onto software: the iPhone 4 runs iOS 4, which is Apple’s mobile device operating system. From my own experience, it is the simplest operating system I have used in my life and it is definitely the best in phones compared to Google’s Android, which is laggy and not as appealing. Some new features in iOS 4 include multitasking, background wallpaper, universal inbox, iBooks, and hundreds of other tweaks. I’ll talk about the 4 big ones only for this review. Multitasking. The number one feature, according to ...

      • most iPhone users, that was requested after the launch of the first iPhone. It took Apple 3 years and 3 phones to get it and boy have they gotten it. Multitasking on the iPhone is the best way to multi-task on any phone. To “activate” or use multi-tasking, you just have to press the home button twice and a bar of icons will pop up. You can slide through the icons to open the application you desire. It is much more intuitive and smoother than any other form of multitasking on a mobile device. Background wallpaper has been around on iPhones for a long time, however, now it is official from Apple. It adds a personal feel to your phone and makes it much more appealing to you as a user. Universal Inbox is probably the most helpful feature for me. It combines all my email accounts/inboxes into one inbox which reduces the time for going into each individual inbox to read unread mail. iBooks, an eBook reader for the Apple iPad, has now been ported to the iPhone/iPod Touch
running iOS 4. There is not much to say except that now you can read eBooks and PDFs on the iPhone. It is a handy feature if you have a lot of documents that you need on the go.

There have been many controversies regarding the iPhone 4’s ability to make phone calls. There was a problem where if the phone was held a certain way, the signal reception would lose causing a call failure. However, Apple has claimed that this problem occurred in only 0.55% of AppleCare customers. I myself have never had any problems, but even if you did, Apple supplied free cases so the problem is temporarily solved.

There isn’t much to say about the iPhone 4 except that it has an amazing display (retina display), two incredible cameras (good for FaceTime and photography), and all the features and applications you would ever need. I would recommend it to someone who is willing to pay for a good product and also to anyone who has interests in basically anything because the iPhone is for anyone and everyone, if you truly desire it.
