From April 1963, The Andy Griffith Show: Dogs, Dogs, Dogs is one of my absolute favorite episodes from all the years of this highly successful TV series. There are some great lines and lots of dogs, and as an animal lover, I love a good dog show like this one.

At the beginning of the show, Opie Taylor (Ron Howard) shows up at the courthouse with a stray dog. He’s a little

guy, and Opie convinces his dad to let him keep the dog. Meanwhile, Barney Fife (Don Knotts) is wigging out because a state investigator is coming to perform an audit and give the approval, or disapproval, for some requested funds.

Before the man arrives, though, more stray dogs show up. In fact, there are eleven of them, and Barney has to find a place of them. His solution is to take ...

      • all of the dogs out to the field and release them. Only a thunderstorm strikes. Now the scene at the jail between Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith), Barney, and Opie is priceless. Knotts has the ultimate line about giraffes that is hysterical and one for the ages. Little Opie is so worried about the dogs. Well, you can imagine what happens. Out in the rain they go to
gather up the dogs, even though Barney is certain their presence in the jail will put the kibosh on the funding they want.

Guest stars in this show are Roy Barcroft and Robert Cornthwaite, both of whom do a terrific job in their short bits.

This show is full of good bits and funny lines, from Barney’s complaint about giving up his Mr. Cookie Bar to the twist at the end that involves Barcroft’s character. Great show.
