  • When I bought the President's Choice Crunchy Mixed Berry Cereal, I thought of it as a poor man's Special K
  • My favourite part is when the fruit gets a chance to absorb a bit of milk, so their outside is soft, but there's still a bit of crunch in the middle
  • The flakes keep their crunch, so each bite is pretty amazing
  • I think this is a great cereal, good with milk or on its own as a healthy snack

When I bought the President’s Choice Crunchy Mixed Berry Cereal, I thought of it as a “poor man’s Special K”. Personally, I am not big on brand names (whether it’s food or clothing), so I picked up the PC brand instead of Kellogg’s.

The cereal is a mix of dried blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, granola (with coconut), and multi-grain

flakes. The ratio of berries to cereal is perfect, not too sparse, but not too much, either. I usually like cereals with more of the fruit, and PC does a great job of delivering that. The cereal pieces themselves are also very good–not the flimsy/thin cereal pieces that instantly drown in the milk. These flakes are coated with a bit of sweetness and do a great job of keeping their form and staying crunchy, even when I pour too much milk.

Overall flavour works well. The berries are not dusted in sugar, so they aren’t overly sweet. I find other cereals turn the fruit into candy-like bits,

which totally defeats the purpose of having a “healthier” breakfast. The tartness of the dried fruit is balanced by the slight sweetness from the cereals and granola. My favourite part is when the fruit gets a chance to absorb a bit of milk, so their outside is soft, but there’s still a bit of crunch
in the middle. The flakes keep their crunch, so each bite is pretty amazing.

The 425g box costs around $4 dollars, which is still comparably cheaper than Special K, and has successfully made its way into my list of staples. I think this is a great cereal, good with milk or on its own as a healthy snack.
