To access the world wide web, you need the basics like computer, mouse and a good processor–these are your hardware. Then you will need a good internet service provider (ISP) with uninterrupted connection giving you at least an average of 3 mbps for seamless surfing, chatting and video streaming. Most of the activities in the world wide web needs to be access by web browser. Most of the internet functions are accessible through website, shall I say all of the internet functions. During the late nineties, there was Netscape Navigator and then Internet Explorer dominated the choices but they weren’t able to keep up with the competition especially the latter. With the popularity of Mac computers, Safari is getting a share of the spotlight. There is also Firefox which is a common choice in Windows computers. Lately, Google being the most used search engine launched their own web browser. I was a Mac

user for the longest time until one time when I did a software update and then I cannot launched Safari, I then started using Google Chrome which I also had in my dock. At first I was not accustomed to it because you have to be acquainted with the interface but at that time I had no choice.

One of the claims raised by Google is faster navigation compared to Safari or Firefox. This feature is best applicable only with Google-owned websites like Gmail or Youtube. With the latter, faster browsing is important. I did experience faster web browsing especially with Youtube. To download an eleven-minute video would only take less then a minute. It was fast and even in Gmail, the attachments and when you open your email itself would only take a couple of seconds compared to other browsers. However, this claim is not doable should your internet connection is wireless or below ...

      • 1 mbps. More so, with ordinary websites, albeit having higher internet speed, still the same performance with other browsers. I don’t see much of a difference.

The interface is not so tailored and the status bar disrupts some icons below, hindering it, and it is not designed in a way that it would look beautiful. This is one thing I do not like with Google. This is very contradictory given that their main website is minimalist. But you can check it with Gmail that Google itself has untidy, unruly interface. I seldom use Gmail as my email except for my account with Reviewstream because of this reason. It is difficult to check, compose and run through your email. Same experience with Chrome.

Another complain I have with Google Chrome is its difficult delete-history page. You have to check it manually, be directed in another page and there you can start deleting it. It was tedious and

irrational. With Safari, erasing history from your browser was simpler.

Despite the flaws, there are good points that Chrome has to offer. First, the translation page which remains very convenient especially when I am doing my research and I am directed to Spanish, Russian or French websites. You don’t need to manually copy paste and consult Google translate but whenever the browser will detect a foreign language it automatically gives you the pop up asking you whether you want it translated or not. Reading a foreign language website is as easy as one click. This is a brilliant feature that no other browser had offered.

Chrome also has the option to go “surfing incognito” which is a good option if you want to do private surfing and not worry about cache on your browser. With other browser, you need to set it manually but with Chrome you can just click this option from the drop down.
