  • I bought this hair color when I was out shopping with a friend in a small, local store (I forgot the name of it), that sells funky accessories like shoes, costume jewelry with lots of bling, scarves, belts, leggings, etc. I was in the market for a purplish red hair color but had not planned on buying it there, but since they had hair color, I asked my friend for advice on choosing a color that might look good on me
  • I am not a woman of color - regardless, I decided to try the color anyway
  • The biggest issue however is the dry and frizzy hair
  • I have colored my hair many times before, and sometimes even without using conditioner (which I do not recommend) and it never was this dry and frizzy

I bought this hair color when I was out shopping with a friend in a small, local store (I forgot the name of it), that sells funky accessories like shoes, costume jewelry with lots of bling, scarves, belts, leggings, etc. I was in the market for a purplish red hair color but had not planned on buying it there, but since they had hair color, I asked my friend for advice on choosing a color that might look good on me.

      When

I got home and looked closer at the box, I saw the small print on the box that this is a product for women of color. I am not a woman of color - regardless, I decided to try the color anyway. I figured that since women of color have hair that is generally harder to manage, that this product would be very gentle and my hair would turn out nice and soft. Also, the box states that there is ...

      • no ammonia in the color and that it contains “now double the conditioner”.

Well, I was wrong. My hair turned out very dry, even with using liberal amounts of conditioner. Also, my natural hair color is brown and the color turned out a shade darker than what the box pictured – I laid a piece of hair next to the colors on the box to compare it. One would think that with lighter natural hair the color would turn out

a little lighter or at least what the box pictured.

The biggest issue however is the dry and frizzy hair. I have colored my hair many times before, and sometimes even without using conditioner (which I do not recommend) and it never was this dry and frizzy. Perhaps there would be different results for women of color as this is a product meant for them. I will only use this product again if the hair color lightens up after several washes.
