Strepsils is a good lozenge which, in my opinion, is effective for the ff. uses:

      1. temporary relief of sore throat - for me, this means that your throat will not hurt/itch so bad while the lozenge is in your mouth. However, shortly after it is completely dissolved, your throat will become sore again.

      2. aid in preventing the development or the sore throat into something worse - in the early stages of sore throat, my tried-and-tested

method is to gargle with water mixed with rock salt 3 times a day. Afterwards, take strepsils whenever you feel you need it. This usually helps stop the sore throat and prevents it from becoming a full-fledged fever, cough or cold. However, strepsils alone cannot do this. The saltwater is the main key.

Once the sore throat has become a fever, cough or cold, Strepsils does not help eradicate it any more and you must switch to ...

      • other medicines or antibiotic. In these cases, Strepsils can just serve to give temporary relief.

Though not an impressive cure for sore throat and the illnesses it leads to, Strepsils is useful because it makes having a sore throat much more bearable. There are many flavors - lemon, orange, etc. but our favorite is the sugarfree because it tastes just like candy and is probably less fattening as it is without sugar. Aside from Strepsils, I

have only tried one other lozenge - a watermelon lozenge bought from a Chinese drugstore. I have to say that the effect of the watermelon lozenge is better as the relief lasts longer, and it is more effective in curing the sore throat. However, I cannot find it around anymore and the taste is not so pleasant. Strepsils, as an alternative, is good enough, and it is available in all the drugstores in different sizes and flavors.
