I have listened to a number of the Great Courses on Tape from the Teaching Company. I have found that many of them are convoluted and hard to follow, especially for beginners, which a lot of the listeners of these courses is liable to be.

The Art of Reading is easy for the layman to understand, but substantial enough to give you a lot to think about and to research; a lot of the course requires that

you read “artfully” so that you can fully grasp the course’s concepts.

Doing this also makes the course more rewarding as you are not just relying on the course to teach you, you get out what you put in.

      • audiobooks.

There are 44 chapters in total, split into 2 parts, each at around 35 minutes long.

I found this length to be at the peak of my threshold.

Without becoming convoluted, there is enough in this course to give a beginner a good foundation of how to begin reading in an artful way.

Being not overly long also allows for repeated listens, or you could go back and listen to specific chapters to refresh your memory.

A great course for people that read but find it difficult to read substantial texts, often finding that they can’t keep up with the writing.

This course outlines ways to get over these hurdles and aims to make reading artfully achievable as well as a pleasurable experience.

Following the well described steps of getting into this advanced method of reading can increase your intellectual capacity and open up a dimension of literature that you may not have known existed.
