  • I love anything with a mixture of chocolate and orange and have been wanting to try the flavor for a while now
  • Having had such high expectations and anticipation for so long, I was actually disappointed upon tasting the ice cream
  • However, it did not live up to my expectations and could have been much more creative and delicious had the ice cream itself had a richer dark chocolate taste and a stronger hint of orange
  • The orange bits in my opinion do not do much for it

I have been seeing this huge poster advertising Haagen Dazs’ new flavor, Dark Chocolate orange for quite a while already. The advertisement was effective as every time I looked at it, I felt tempted to buy it. It was a seductive picture of a man with his face near a woman’s neck and in the middle was a half-peeled orange with dark chocolate inside. I love anything with a mixture of chocolate and orange and have been wanting to try the flavor for

      a while now.

However, as I am usually on diet, I only succumbed to the ad recently, when I saw a cup of the said flavor in the ice cream freezer of 7-11. I finally decided to buy it. It cost HKD26 for a small cup.

Having had such high expectations and anticipation for so long, I was actually disappointed upon tasting the ice cream. It tasted like normal chocolate ice cream with a very subtle, almost-not-there dark and orangey flavor, with ...

      • dried orange peel bits inside. First of all, I was expecting the color to be a darker, richer, and a more seductive dark brown as the name dark chocolate orange suggests. Upon seeing the bland light brown color of the ice cream, I got disappointed already. Second, I was expecting the ice cream itself to taste like a luscious blend of dark chocolate and orange, and not just mainly chocolate ice cream with orange bits. I immediately felt as if I
should have saved the calories instead of eating the ice cream as it was nothing special.

The flavor was not bad, it was not too sweet and the creaminess and consistency is good, as Haagen Dazs products usually are. However, it did not live up to my expectations and could have been much more creative and delicious had the ice cream itself had a richer dark chocolate taste and a stronger hint of orange. The orange bits in my opinion do not do much for it.
