Finders Keepers by Marilyn Kane is the 4th book in her Gifted series for younger teens. this book focuses mainly on Ken Preston and his gift - the ability to hear and communicate with the dead. He uses this ability in Better Late than Never to save Jenna from a scam artist, but he still doesn’t think his ability is very useful.

Amanda is again a focal point. Out

of all of the students in the series, she is in all of the books in a central role - so far. In this book, she moves into the body of an adult and discovers that she is a scam artist but doesn’t warn the others, so they don’t find out the secret that she finds out. It’s an interesting way to develop Amanda’s character.

      I find the ...

      • ideas of the book interesting although the thread that links them - the people trying to take advantage of them - seems a bit weak to me. It seems like the “bad guys”, despite the fact that they are all adults and apparently experienced con artists, choose the most convoluted methods possible to try to use the children.

The author does have realistic characters - the teens react in

much the way that you would expect people with special gifts to respond. Some of them don’t want them, and all of them can be convinced to use them for interesting purposes. They also each want to be heroes, a bit, and sometimes that’s what gets them into trouble. This is really the most realistic part about the book. The rest of the book didn’t feel very real.
