We first played this game several years ago at a back yard barbecue and since then we have seen it many times while camping. Some of the varieties of this game are home-made with golf balls, rope, and pipe to create the ladderball game. We found ourselves frequently borrowing the game from friends when we would throw parties or go camping, so we decided to purchase our own. When we began shopping for the ladderball game, we soon realized that there was quite a variety in price. We decided to go with an inexpensive set first and see how we liked it, so we bought the double ladderball set at Dick’s Sporting Goods for around $30. The one we bought had colorful rungs, and was made of plastic.

At first this plastic on the ladder rungs felt really flimsy compared to other sets I had seen, but once it was all put together, it became a little more sturdy.

A big difference between the ladderball games I had seen with golf balls, was that this one had soft throwing balls instead. In a way this was nice for when the kids would play, since these balls are tossed quite a distance and there is a risk of injury with the hard golf balls. The game is played by placing the to ladder towers a distance apart from each other, and then throwing the balls (there are two, attached by a rope) and trying to get the balls to land on one of the ladder rungs. Each rung scores ...

      • a different point value, and each player takes turns throwing until a certain score is achieved. The rules vary, depending on who you play with. Some people play to 21 points, some people play to mare or less than that. This game is a favorite at parties and while camping.

The game we bought seemed to work for what we needed it for, although I wish we would have purchased one a bit more sturdy. This one tends to fall over if the balls are thrown too hard. Overall, it has been fun, though, to bring along camping or play in the back yard. The kids love it, too. This set came with a carrying case, but we rarely use it. The reason

for that is that we have found it to be more of a hassle to disassemble the game in order to place it into the case, then have to assemble it again when we want to use it. It’s easier just to take the legs off each ladder and slide the whole thing into the truck and bring it along that way.

Overall, we have had a lot of fun with this game, and I would recommend it to someone who is looking for an inexpensive ladderball set. I would suggest getting one that is a bit more sturdy if you plan on playing rough with it, but this one does an okay job for the price. This game is versatile and fun, and always enjoyed by people anywhere we bring it.
