  • AVI2DVD is freeware (wich means is available for free) and for it to work it needs to install some other pieces of software (also free), but the problem here is that during installation AVI2DVD launches the installers for all that software and all of them show the user a lot of different configurations so it is really easy to get lost during the process
  • When installing I thing the best thing is to accept all the default configuration, but if at the end the user will accept the defaults it would be good if AVI2DVD had an option to accept the defaults just once and install all what's needed on a silent way
  • Even with that AVI2DVD is one of the best DVD authoring solutions, that would be even better if it could support more file types and codecs (like DVD Flick does), and I think that will be a reality in future versions because AVI2DVD is still in an early stage as current version is 0.6.1

AVI2DVD is a DVD authoring software to create video DVDs of those movies and videos you have just downloaded. This software is suited to create video DVD from the most common video containers like AVI, OGM, MKV, MP4 and WMV, using the DivX or XviD video codec, real video 9 or 10 and Windows Media Video codec (WMV). On the audio it supports the most common formats like WAV, MP3, AC3, OGG, AAC and WMA. This software may not be the most versatile one (as of the set of video codecs and containers it can handle) but as its name says this one is good to create DVDs from AVI files. And it may only open AVI files but this is one of the easiest DVD authoring systems

      available.

The strong side of AVI2DVD is it’s intuitive user interface. It is a some how tabbed interface, wich each tab representing one of five steps needed to create a video DVD. Each tab has different options, depending on the step that’s being configured and all the options are easy to undestand. On first step all that’s needed to get started is opening an AVI file and selecting the input aspect ratio (whether it is 16:9 or 4:3). If the video file includes several audio streams it is possible to select up to three for the final DVD. The second step configures the output, here is possible to select if you want to create a DVD or a VCD. The third step has sone encoder options. On step four ...

      • it is possible to add subtitles to the DVD, this may be on SRT or TXT format. The fifth and final step (wich is optional) is the one to create the DVD menu. This tabbed steps interface is really easy to use and follow and makes it easy to go back one, two or all the steps and check if the configuration is ok. AVI2DVD is really easy to use and for most cases all default options are ok.

But AVI2DVD do have a dark side and it is its installation process. AVI2DVD is freeware (wich means is available for free) and for it to work it needs to install some other pieces of software (also free), but the problem here is that during installation AVI2DVD launches the installers

for all that software and all of them show the user a lot of different configurations so it is really easy to get lost during the process. When installing I thing the best thing is to accept all the default configuration, but if at the end the user will accept the defaults it would be good if AVI2DVD had an option to accept the defaults just once and install all what’s needed on a silent way.

Even with that AVI2DVD is one of the best DVD authoring solutions, that would be even better if it could support more file types and codecs (like DVD Flick does), and I think that will be a reality in future versions because AVI2DVD is still in an early stage as current version is 0.6.1.
