I was at a friend’s house recently and saw the movie Jezebel on the Turner Classic Movie channel, a channel I don’t get, but would love to. The movie was filmed in black & white and released in

1938, a year before “Gone with the Wind” which is a similar movie and may not be as good.

The movie takes place in the Antebellum South.

Bette Davis plays Jane Marsden, a spoiled young woman used to having her own way who attracts men like sorghum molasses attracts flies (notice how I slipped a Southern expression in).

She is engaged to marry Preston Dillard, played by Henry Fonda, but plays around and eventually drives him ...

      away.

If this seems familiar to you, think “Gone with the Wind.

” He marries a Yankee woman of all things and returns with her.

Naturally Bette Davis is shocked that anyone could forget her and marry someone else,

      especially a Yankee.

It’s a fun movie with Bette Davis getting her comeuppance, which she richly deserves.

If you get a chance to watch it on TCM or to rent it, by all means do so.

      I think you’ll like it.
