I was sold on this young adult series by Kelly Armstrong the minute I saw who the author was. I’ve read all of Kelly Armstrong’s adult books, centered around a mystical theme, and knew that these Darkest Powers books would be something to behold. Her characters are always very honest and imperfect, and it’s one of the reasons I’ve enjoyed her stories so much.

In Book Three of the Darkest Powers series, The Reckoning, Chloe Sanders, the

main character, is coming into her powers as a Necromancer, something she’s always been afraid of. She can bring re-animate the bodies of dead animals with a thought, and so she’s always careful to watch what she’s thinking! And now, in this book, her and her band of friends, one a werewolf, and one a witch, and one a sorcerer, she is on the run from a group an evil corporation that wants them all dead because ...

      • of what they can do, and because they refuse to work on the wrong side of the paranormal ethical spectrum.

This is a great young adult novel featuring some extremely likeable characters, especially the werewolf who you first meet as an awkward and pimple-ridden young man who isn’t sure of his own powers and strength, and who pushes Chloe aside in an effort to protect her. You see her progression from totally innocent, to a mean spirit-wielding

powerful necromancer who is sometimes still afraid to use her gifts, even when it means putting an end to this awful corporation.

I’m definitely waiting with baited breath for the next book in the series to be released, and to see the budding relationship between her and her werewolf take flight. Not to mention her dead friend who haunts her and helps her along the way! So many interesting characters to involve yourself in, so you’ll never be bored.
