Spartacus (1960) tells the tale of the legendary slave named Spartacus and how he was a gladiator who escaped with others to lead a slave rebellion against the Roman Empire in order to escape to freedom.
While not historically accurate to the true story of Spartacus, this film is still very magnificent to watch and it just reminds you of how they used to make movies.

Douglas was great as Spartacus, giving the character just the right feel and you are sympathetic to him. Laurence Olivier is great as Crassus and he is also very good in this role. Jean Simmons is a great actress and she plays Varinia perfectly.
The visual effects are astounding for this movie, and when I say that, I’m being serious as this was made before CGI ...
