With age comes a little wisdom. Nowadays, I believe that splurging on facial cleansers is not only impractical but unwise because I feel that with an expensive cleanser, I would just be literally washing my money down the drain the moment I rinse it off. That is not to say that I haven’t bought and tried some of the more expensive ones like Chanel, Estee Lauder, and Clarins in the past. I have, and even now I cringe at the thought of spending a lot on those brands. I used to think that an expensive cleanser would be the solution to a lot of my skin concerns and that if I keep at it, it would make my skin appear fairer, more radiant, and would take care of the fine lines that have developed on my face over the years. That turned out to be wishful thinking and I have since then learned from my mistakes. I know better now. Facial cleansers were created to remove dirt and other impurities that have latched on our faces from a whole day’s

worth of activities. If I wanted a product to target my specific areas of concern, then the better product to invest on would be those that are meant to sit long enough on the face for it to absorb the potent ingredients in the product.

While I am still excited to try out the new cleansers in the market, I just limit myself to the drugstore brands as I am now a little wary of the expensive department store brands. The most recent drugstore find I’ve tried is the Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Cleanser. Several years ago, the brand Aveeno was available only in the grocery section of the Duty Free Shop in Paranaque and it used to be that whatever limited Aveeno items that can be found in those little shops in Greenhills were either old stocks or nearing their expiration dates. Since there is now a local company that distributes Aveeno here to major grocery store chains like Rustan’s, S&R, Makati Supermarket, Cash and Carry, and South Supermarkets, it’s not anymore so difficult to find fresh stocks of Aveeno products.

      • No need to ask a relative in the States to include Aveeno in the care package.

I bought my Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Cleanser in the Rustan’s Supermarket inside our village. I have always liked the brand Aveeno and have tried other Aveeno cleansers (Clear Complexion Cleanser and Brightening Scrub) in the past. The Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Cleanser appears to be a relatively new product at the time I bought it and I couldn’t wait to try it. The packaging is simple and very convenient even for travel. I like that it’s the foam type. I am partial to foam cleansers because they are mess-free and are easy to use. I have been using this cleanser continuously for a week now and I have no complaints. I like to wear makeup and I find that two pumps of the product on my hand is enough to remove most of it. I never know exactly if there are any traces of makeup left on my skin since I don’t apply a toner with cottonball after I wash but

there are none on the white towel that I use to pat my face with after I rinse. Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Cleanser does not dry or irritate my normal skin and I think they improved on their fragrance because while I like the fresh scent of the Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Scrub, I find the scent of this to be fresher, cleaner, better. Having been a fan of Paul and Joe foaming cleanser, I am used to washing my face with foam and I find that Aveeno rivals the airy light and almost creamy consistency of Paul and Joe’s foam at only a third of its price. I do not mind that this cleanser does not rinse as easily as another favorite of mine, the Neutrogena transparent facial bar. I have not noticed any major changes in the softness or smoothness of my skin but I’ve learned not to expect miracles from facial cleansers. As long as it cleans well, does not leave my skin dry or makes it oily, I’m good. On the basis of these alone, I rate this product a 10.
