Baseball caps are a staple of the summer wardrobe for many people, and although I do not wear them as often as some people do, I would not like to be without a few to choose from. This 100% cotton cap from Beechfield is one of my favourites, and has proved itself to be both durable and comfortable in many different circumstances over several years of quite hard usage. It is available in a range of several colours, but mine is

in a very dark blue - almost black, in fact - which I think looks pretty good.

This is a cap made of quite thick material, and its thickness has both positive and negative connotations. On the plus side, it gives it extra solidity and strength, and I never feel, as I do with some thinner hats, that it is going to fall apart at any moment. It also adds just a touch of waterproofing, though this is not an advertised feature and ...

      • I would certainly not advise wearing it in the rain deliberately! On the minus side of the ledger, the solid nature means that it can get quite hot when the sun is beating down, and I would perhaps say that it was more of a spring or autumn garment than one for the real midsummer heat.

The design on the front is of a red kite, a beautiful bird of prey found in many parts of Europe. It is properly embroidered, not simply

printed on, and this adds to the impression of good quality that this cap exudes. The colours in particular are spot on for this bird, and the detailing on the feathers, for example, is very good. Under this is the simple phrase “Kite Country” in yellow, in a slightly unusual serif typeface. Prices seem to vary quite a lot, but given the quality of the cap I would say that at anything up to around eight to ten pounds it would be well worth buying.
