  • The verse of the track doesn’t exactly have that Megadeth sound, I mean you know it’s clear who you’re listening to, but it has sort of a different sound to it as well

Insomnia is a song by Megadeth which is the first song for their record Risk. The track opens up with a very brief guitar riff before Mustaine comes in nearly immediately with the vocals as he sings above this guitar riff as well as a bass line and the drum rhythm as well.

The verse of the track doesn’t exactly have that Megadeth sound, I mean you know it’s clear who you’re listening to, but it has sort of a different sound to it as well.

      The

chorus is the exact same way except to an even larger extent and the chorus is the exact same thing.

You see, each of these sections does have that characteristic sound of Dave Mustaine but at the same time there’s something just different on the track as well.

For example, the verse features sort of a string section part, although subtle, while the pre-chorus has more of an industrial sound which I would expect more from a band like Nine Inch Nails, and the chorus of the ...

      • track just plays with a type of sound which Megadeth has never done.

The album is entitled Risk because Mustaine utilized songwriting techniques which he honestly never did before and he certainly did a take a risk with this record.

To say the least, the track is certainly different so if you want sort of a unique sound from Megadeth this track is sort of worth looking into.

I’m not exactly sure how I really feel about the sound on this track though, I really do think

that Mustaine may have played around with a few too many things that Megadeth didn’t need to experiment with and the final product ends up coming off as a track which is trying to be somewhat obscure yet trying to retain this thrash metal sound.

Although I’m not a huge fan of this track, it’s not a terrible song to be honest and I’d say it’s worth at least a listen to see if you enjoy it, just be aware that it’s certainly different to say the least.
