One of the appetizers offered for $5 at Pizza Hut are pepperoni pizza rolls. These simple little pieces of finger food are pizza dough stuffed with mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices, served with marinara sauce on the side. They are lightly dusted with seasoning and come in orders of four rolls.

For the most part, the rolls have two to three pieces of pepperoni in them. For their size, this is not too bad, but the cheese and bread definitely overwhelm the taste of pepperoni.

Sometimes the seasoning on top is overdone, making the pizza rolls too salty, especially given the couple of salty pepperoni pieces already inside. Other times, there is no seasoning on top, and the pizza rolls are a little too plain. It seems to be rare that the pizza rolls come out just right!

Still, with the large blob of semi-digestible cheese in the center of each roll, they are very filling, making for a good appetizer in this sense. The mozzarella inside is the ...

      • same as what they put on the pizza itself as well as in the crust of a stuffed crust pizza, so anyone with trouble digesting cheese should veer away from these snacks. When the pizza rolls get cold, the cheese gets very hard and chewy, making them difficult to eat. Compounding this on top of Pizza Hut’s slow service, and it’s almost impossible to get a hot order of these appetizers.

While edible, and a decent price, the pizza rolls are best left to hungry families

looking to fill up on snacks so they can pay for less pizza. Pizza Hut’s pizza rolls would be vastly improved if there was an option for fillings (i.e. beef or sausage instead of pepperoni, or a vegetarian version) and if they were cooked more consistently, instead of being sometimes hot, sometimes cold, sometimes over-seasoned and sometimes not seasoned at all. I have tried these at three different Pizza Hut restaurants in Virginia, with varied results, leading me to rate these just a neutral 5.
