  • The track opens up with a synthesizer along with a drum pattern, something very rare for System Of A Down to utilize but an interesting tone nonetheless
  • The lyrics basically deal with this experience where Malakian played in this celebrity baseball game and was surrounded by these old stars of Hollywood, hence where the title of the track comes from
  • What I like about Old School Hollywood is that it certainly shows System really experimenting with a different type of sound which works well for them, yet they still do retain their very aggressive and characteristic sound at the same time
  • I honestly can’t really think of another song where System Of A Down even use a synthesizer with the same prominence they use in this track but the experimentation works nicely and I’d certainly recommend this song as one to listen to

Old School Hollywood is a song by System Of A Down which appears on their record Mezmerize, the first half of their double album Mezmerize/Hypnotize. The track opens up with a synthesizer along with a drum pattern, something very rare for System Of A Down to utilize but an interesting tone nonetheless.

A robotic effect is also placed on Malakian’s voice during the first few opening vocal bits so

right away you’ll see that this song has a different tone than usual.

However, soon enough, System does indeed add their own characteristic back on the track thanks to an extremely heavy rhythm played by Malakian on guitar along with the vocal performances of Malakian during the verse and Tankian during the chorus.

The lyrics basically deal with this experience where Malakian played in this celebrity baseball game and ...

The track certainly does experiment, but also important is that System doesn’t exactly compromise their very characteristic heavy sound in order to execute this experimentation.

Yes, the sound is different but it’s still clear that you’re listening to System Of A Down.
