  • Our only problem was that Cairo was at the top of Egypt, The red sea resorts were at the side of Egypt and Luxor was right down at the bottom
  • No problem we thought, we can fly from the UK to Cairo then make our way down to Luxor and fly home, but how would we get to explore this amazing country without having to take out a second mortgage we thought
  • The hotel didn't have double glazing and was pretty noisy but we got used to it after the first night, and the noise from the streets below made the week even more special, it was as close to feeling like a real Egyptian a person could ever experience
  • All in all the flights and the mini bus cost us £493 each, £986 altogether and along with the hotels our holiday came to a very loveable £1275
  • It is so much cheaper booking your own hotels and flights, and the package holidays that the top travel agents have to offer are not always the best way to go

When myself and my partner wanted to travel to Egypt we had three places in mind that we wanted to visit. The Pyramids in Cairo was of course at the top of our list, then second on our list was the Temples in Luxor, and not forgetting the beautiful Red Sea that we wanted to explore. Our only problem was that Cairo was at the top of Egypt, The red sea resorts were at the side of Egypt and Luxor was right down at the bottom. No problem we thought, we can fly from the UK to Cairo then make our way down to Luxor and fly home, but how would we get to explore this amazing country without having to take out a second mortgage we thought.

We both had in mind that we wanted to spend no more than £700 each for the holiday, 1 week in Cairo, 1 week at the red sea and 1 week in Luxor. We began to phone some of the top travel agents only to be told that on the money that we had to offer would only get us maybe two weeks max. In fact we were told by quite a few of the top Travel agents that it would be impossible for us to spend 3 weeks in Egypt at all of these different destinations that we had in mind,

on the money that we had available.

The Summer holidays were getting closer by the day and we still didn’t have anything booked, in the end did we phone up one of the Travel agents and pay them the £2000-£3000 that they were charging? No we did not, instead we decided that we would arrange our own travel plans down to the finest detail to save ourselves some cash and saving ourselves some cash is exactly what we did.

Firstly we went online to a site called “Travel Republic” to book our hotels. We booked a really nice hotel called “The Delta Pyramids Hotel” in Cairo for 1 week which was situated across from the pyramids, and we paid £97 for a room for the both of us with a pyramid view. The hotel was in downtown Giza and was right in the heart of the city, waking up everyday to the Pyramids was something that we will both remember for the rest of our lives. The hotel didn’t have double glazing and was pretty noisy but we got used to it after the first night, and the noise from the streets below made the week even more special, it was as close to feeling like a real Egyptian a person could ever experience.

The second Hotel we booked for our second week was “The Arena Inn Hotel” situated in “El ...

      • Gouna” along the red sea which we booked for £104, It was a nice quiet hotel hidden amongst the lagoons and after the hectic but very enjoyable stay in Cairo was exactly what we both needed. We then booked the third and final hotel at the “Pyramisa Isis Hotel” in Luxor for £88, it was about 10 minutes drive to the Karnak temple and the Luxor temple, and around 20 minutes drive to “The River Nile”, all in all we booked our hotels with Travel republic for the three weeks stay for £289. It’s not often you can book hotels for three weeks for two people for that price but cutting out the middle man was well worth it.

The next thing that we needed to do was book the fights, we found a great site online called “E Bookers” where we booked return flights with British Airways from London to Cairo, for £292 each, Internal fights from Cairo to El Gouna with Egypt Air for £95 each and then a mini bus from El Gouna to Luxor for £30 each which you can book anywhere in Egypt, and finally another internal flight from Luxor back to Cairo with Egypt Air for £76 each, taking us back for are return flight from Cairo to London. All in all the flights and the mini bus cost us £493 each, £986 altogether

and along with the hotels our holiday came to a very loveable £1275.

It is so much cheaper booking your own hotels and flights, and the package holidays that the top travel agents have to offer are not always the best way to go. It took us only a few hours to book our holiday ourselves and it potentially saved us thousands. Egypt is a place everybody should visit at least once in their lifetime, and when myself and my partner returned home it wasn’t long before we met up with a few friends and told them how cheap we booked our holiday. They were very shocked and depressed as they had just paid well over £2000 for the both of them to visit Egypt for only 10 days where they would only get to visit half the places that we saw and only get to spend a few hours at the Pyramids because they had to drive for 6 hours there and back always returning to the same hotel.

So Guys and girls, give a bit of thought on how you book your holidays in future, and ask yourselves the question, am I booking my holiday with this agent or is this agent just going online and booking it for me and taking a cut. Can I do better booking it all myself? the answer in our case was yes!
