Jules Verne’s novel Around the World in 80 Days has been adapted for the big screen several times. The version of this adaptation made in 2004 stars Jackie Chan as the assistant to the scientist who is the main character in the book. Jackie Chan plays a thief who has recently run off with a priceless statue.

He steals the statue in order to return it to his home village in China. On the run from the police, he bumps into the scientist who was trying to make

a flying machine to travel around the world.

In order to escape as well as return to his native China, Chan poses as a valet and offers to accompany the scientist and to be his assistant. The pair travel first to France, where they pick up a young woman who becomes a love interest to the scientist.

They continue traveling around the world, just the three of them, and have many madcap adventures. Being a Jackie Chan movie, there are many great scenes of martial arts, all of ...

      • which are marvelously choreographed and very entertaining.

One great fight scene occurs in an artist’s gallery where Jackie and his enemies fling around paint. Pursuing Chan and his friends is a ruthless gang led by a woman crime lord who are determined to get back the statue.

This chase results in many fights and a lot of adventure. One thing I like about this movie was the cameos by many famous people — Rob Schneider plays a beggar on the streets of London and Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a

        womanizing prince.

There were other cameos as well. As with all Jackie movies, the story was not as important as the fight scenes.

But this story made enough sense to keep the movie going.

This was a really fun movie.

I’ve watched it several times. I enjoyed it every time I watch it.

The performances are very good, and the choreography of the scenes that involve fighting is fantastic. This is definitely one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies.

It has the right balance of humor and excitement.

Yeah, it was a pretty cool movie. I wonder why I never saw the other lead actors (other than Jackie) in Around the World in 80 days anywhere else.
