  • Something I’ve noticed about Morrison is that even on the debut record, he had already established a vocal tone and he really stuck with this throughout his albums with The Doors
  • This whole debut album is excellent so I’d recommend the entire record, but The Crystal Ship is definitely a track you should listen to if you can’t hear the entire album
  • The track certainly demonstrates a very mature level of songwriting, and for a debut album, this is just amazing

The Crystal Ship is a song by The Doors which appears on their self-titled debut record. The song starts off with Morrison singing a few words before the rest of the band joins in with him.

His vocal tone on this track is extremely melodic and has that very characteristic tone of Jim Morrison.

Something I’ve noticed about Morrison is that even on the debut record, he had already established a vocal tone and he really stuck with this throughout his albums

      with The Doors.

Many times I find that if you were to compare a singer on their first record with a band and a later record, they develop a different tone, but Morrison was never really like that at all.

The song has a somewhat eerie atmosphere, although certainly not to the same extent as some of the other tracks on this record.

I’ll also add that the piano bit during about the middle of this song is just excellent and certainly ...

      • helps to add to the song.

In fact all of the music on this track is just excellent and as always, each member of The Doors manages to work extremely well with each of the others and Morrison tops it all off very nicely.

At the beginning of the track, the song is extremely quiet and somewhat empty as far as instrumentation goes.

However, by the end of the track the sound has really built up and the instrumentation has become far

fuller, the difference between the start and the finish is extremely impressive considering that The Doors got from point A to point B just in the span of about two and a half minutes.

This whole debut album is excellent so I’d recommend the entire record, but The Crystal Ship is definitely a track you should listen to if you can’t hear the entire album.

The track certainly demonstrates a very mature level of songwriting, and for a debut album, this is just amazing.
