  • However, the band unfortunately keeps the song pretty similar throughout and even being just halfway in I’m sort of tired of the repetitive structure and the very constant tempo and atmosphere of this song
  • When you’re going to have a song which is seven minutes then you need a pretty interesting structure which is at least unconventional to keep it interesting, or at least the mood of the song should change, but unfortunately Althea doesn’t have these and the track is just sort of boring after a while

Althea is a song by The Greateful Dead which appears on their album Go To Heaven. The track opens up at a pretty moderate pace with Garcia soloing over a pretty laid-back rhythm to create a pretty nice sound.

The music strikes me as very moving which makes it good to be soloing over and then Garcia continues on to sing over this rhythm which works pretty well.

After the first verse the transition into

the second verse is sort of another guitar lead which is nice because the rhythm of this track provides a good ground for Garcia to solo over which he takes advantage of nicely.

However, the band unfortunately keeps the song pretty similar throughout and even being just halfway in I’m sort of tired of the repetitive structure and the very constant tempo and atmosphere of this song.

The structure is extremely repetitive with the introduction ...

      • of the song, the verse, an instrumental transition, into a next verse, and repeat.

When you’re going to have a song which is seven minutes then you need a pretty interesting structure which is at least unconventional to keep it interesting, or at least the mood of the song should change, but unfortunately Althea doesn’t have these and the track is just sort of boring after a while.

I will say that the music to

this track is pretty nice but I can’t listen to this song for seven minutes without getting bored, if there were just more changes then it would’ve been far more enjoyable, although not terrible I suppose.

Although the sound on this track is pretty nice, the song would’ve been a lot better if it was just shorter because as it is, it just drags on for far too long without adding any new dimension to the song.
