  • As soon as I heard the opening guitar part I thought Chuck Berry and this would make sense as this song is a cover of him
  • The Rolling Stones sound pretty good on this track and it certainly conveys a pretty traditional rock and roll sound without all that much production and not the best quality, but this just gives it that sort of authentic 1950s type of sound

Carol is a song by The Rolling Stones which appears on their self-titled debut record. As soon as I heard the opening guitar part I thought Chuck Berry and this would make sense as this song is a cover of him.

Therefore, since it’s a cover I can’t comment very much on the structure of the track or the songwriting but I can certainly talk about the execution of the

      song.

The song opens up with a pretty traditional rock riff played on guitar and then leads into an extremely moving rhythm which seems to progressively get faster and faster, although in reality it’s pretty much staying around the same.

Jagger matches the energetic rhythm with a quick vocal delivery and sounds pretty good as well I might add.

The verse passes by pretty quickly, and although I’m probably imagining ...

      • it, it really does seem as if the tempo is gradually just getting faster and faster.

The Rolling Stones sound pretty good on this track and it certainly conveys a pretty traditional rock and roll sound without all that much production and not the best quality, but this just gives it that sort of authentic 1950s type of sound.

The track is pretty short, only about two and a half

minutes, and the structure is pretty repetitive so obviously this isn’t the track to be listening to if you want to hear something that’s just musically brilliant.

However, if you’re looking for a song which has a nice moving rhythm and is just enjoyable to listen to, Carol is certainly a good pick and I feel like The Rolling Stones do a very nice job of recreating that late 1950s rock and roll sound.
