It is very difficult for a sequel to make the audience feel the same excitement as the first movie, and this sequel didn’t quite live up to that… However, it didn’t fail either. The second Transformers movie did a bad job, and a good job of giving us want we want in this type of movie. We got action, reaction, explosions, and most of all… lots of cool robots. However, we also got an overload of melodrama, psychobabble and an excruciating string of one love scene after another. We even got an awful “slow motion” scene

near the end, that was laughably ridiculous. The movie has some strong points, no doubt, and the fight scenes were well laid out. However, all logic seems to have skipped by the writers. There’s no explanation why Optimus Prime fights alone, except that he must die to promote the story line. His comrades show up seconds later, but we have no clue why they couldn’t be there at the right time. They have great skills at flying, but not when we need them?

I did like the characters of the two enemy robots who switch ...

      • sides. The small one was annoying but cute at the same time, and the old robot was really a nice addition. He showed us that evil can switch to good. He also gave us some comic relief that was well written. Unlike the 2 goody Autobots who rap in ghetto style, and just embarrass us more than even Jar Jar Binks did back when Lucas lost his mind…. at least the old robot was smart.

It gets extra points for the scorpion robot and the jaguar. These were clever inventions from their special effects designers.

        The ending

was a bit predicable. The US General playing the part of the “unthinking” xenophobe who hates the robots… was overdone. We seen this scene in hundreds movies. Couldn’t Michael Bey come up with something better? The whole part of the military was played in a clumsy style. Very predictable.

Overall it was a movie worth watching. It’s only slightly above average, so don’t expect to get chills or thrills. But it is worth your 90 minutes of fun. I liked many scenes, so I will overlook the various boring or badly directed parts.
