  • I’ll admit that Serious does sound somewhat closer to System Of A Down than a new direction, but the rest of the tracks on the album are pretty different
  • The music and the vocals are extremely fast in the verse of this song however in the chorus the song not only gets significantly lighter, it also slows down and features Malakian singing in actually quite a delicate tone

Serious is the opening song of Scars On Broadway’s self-titled debut record. As this being the first record, some fans were not sure what to expect from Daron Malakian, whether he’d go with the sound that he had in System Of A Down or whether he’d go in a new direction.

I’ll admit that Serious does sound somewhat closer to System Of A Down than a new direction, but the rest

of the tracks on the album are pretty different.

That being said, onto the review.

The track opens up with some short feedback noise before going into an extremely heavy and galloping guitar riff with Malakian singing very aggressively over the riff.

      • and features Malakian singing in actually quite a delicate tone.

However, just as quickly as it came in, the chorus transitions back into the second verse where Malakian is once again singing in an extremely aggressive tone.

After the second chorus the song goes into a quick instrumental bridge where Malakian’s heavy guitar takes center stage, and although the section is nothing all that great, it lends nicely into the chorus

which is now slightly more aggressive so it isn’t just repeating how the first two choruses were.

I say this is somewhat similar to System Of A Down, but even this song has its own distinct character from the work that System was doing.

Overall, Serious is a pretty normal rock driven aggressive song but it’s a nice energetic introduction to the album and certainly an enjoyable song in itself as well.
