Autopsy is a film from After Dark, aka the famous After Dark Horrorfest films that release “8 films to die for” every year for the last few years. I generally find their films to be of better quality than the usual“B”horror movies that are available.

This one combines horror, sick humor, and pretty decent acting.

The premise is not terribly original.

It starts with a car crash and a bunch of college kids.

(There are always teens or college students,

aren’t there?) Hurt and scared, they are picked up and taken to Mercy Hospital, a place operating on a skeleton crew and headed by a psychotic doctor Benway who is planning to harvest their organs to keep his cancer stricken wife alive.

The atmosphere is genuinely creepy, and the characters are exactly what you see in all of these movie variations.

One young lady stands out as the hero, although the ending of the film is one of those “non-endings” where you are ...

      • left to assume the worst.

I found it a bit difficult believing that these kids didn’t notice something really weird about the place long before they did.

There are some notable and gory scenes.

One where a boy has been surgically opened, and all of his internal organs strung up and hanging from the ceiling, attached to various cables and tubes, to go into the next room to save the life-support ed cancer victim.

Of course while this is medically impossible, it

is quite a visual! The poor kid is put out of his misery by his girlfriend, the heroine, in a touchingly sad and horrific scene.

That’s the highlight of the film, really.

There is lots of blood and violence, foul language and markedly stupid moves made by all.

If this were a film on its own, I probably would say don’t bother to watch it, but if you’re a fan of the yearly After Dark Horrorfest offerings, then of course you don’t want to miss it.
