  • Considering that taking a course at a college/university can cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for the same course material, this is a great bargain
  • I highly recommend to those who either want to learn this language right at home, or who already take courses, to check out this website

JapanesePod101.com is a Japanese language-learning website that offers free & subscription paid podcasts that act as lessons for the listener. I signed-up for this service a couple of months ago, and right away I was treated to a free 7-day Premium subscription. It gave me the chance to try out all of the features and listen to some lessons, download the accompanying lesson notes (PDF files), so I could decide if it was right for me.

Well, it certainly was, and still is! I purchased a Basic subscription, which costs either $8

a month, or less if you buy more months at a time. The Premium subscription fee is $25 a month, or less with bulk purchases, too, with added site privileges. Overall, this is a very fair price for learning a foreign language. Considering that taking a course at a college/university can cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for the same course material, this is a great bargain!

Now that I’ve had some time to listen to the podcasts, I can say I’ve learned so much Japanese in such a short period ...

      • of time! The company founder, Peter Galante, a native of New York who now lives in Japan, is the main host of almost all of the lesson podcasts, and he is a funny, entertaining, and great teacher. He is always joined by one, or two native Japanese voice actors who will either help with instruction, or just lend their voices and pronunciation skills. Everyone has a unique perspective of the language and culture they were raised in, giving the listener greater insight—not always something you get in a classroom!

        I highly

recommend to those who either want to learn this language right at home, or who already take courses, to check out this website. There are lesson levels that range from total newbie to advanced. This would make a wonderful complement to the existing Japanese student’s education, as you can pick and choose what tools you want to use. For those self-learners, this is your classroom. There are courses on core language, culture, kana, kanji, survival phrases & Japanese songs. Don’t forget the free videos on their youtube channel, as well as their site!
