  • Audio and video quality are quite good with this system but I have found that sometimes the included mic can be too sensitive so I recommend placing it far from where people will be talking

The Polycom ViewStation is a video conferencing system we use at work. This system includes a camera and a mic and let us communicate with people on another cities using the Internet and there’s no need for broadband, video conferences can occur even working with low bandwidth. We usually make our calls using 256 or 384Kbps and both video and audio quality are very good, between VCD and DVD. This system uses the H.323 protocol so it is possible to stablish communication with any other system using it, that

includes many PC applications like Ekiga or the old Microsoft Netmeeting.

The Polycom ViewStation is very easy to set up, all that’s needed is to place the system on top of a TV set (or any other place you like) and set the mic in place. It has some RCA connections on the back so you can connect it to two monitors and also you can connect an extra audio and video source so you can use an external camera and mic and switch between the integrated camera to the ...

      • external when having the video conference. All the connections are very well detailed on the back of the system, making it easy to set up without having any technical set of skills. The systems configuration on the other hand is a little more complicated. The system menu can be a little cryptic but having the systems manual by hand it shouldn’t give too much work either. Audio and video quality are quite good with this system but I have found that sometimes the included mic can be too sensitive
so I recommend placing it far from where people will be talking.

This video conferencing system has helped us communicate more easily and it’s good having it because that way I don’t have to travel much to get some information. Now we have replaced this by a Polycom QDX system but have the ViewStation on reserve and we still use it from time to time when there’s a need of having two video conferences simultaneously. Audio and video are better on the QDX 6000 but still the ViewStation has a decent quality.
