  • I've sort of developed a rather embarrassing problem when it comes to motion sickness over the years
  • I thought for sure it was going to be some chewable pill or something
  • I'd heard that ginger was great for motion sickness, but I'd never much cared for the taste of it, so when I found out it was in gum-form, I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to stomach the taste in that either

I’ve sort of developed a rather embarrassing problem when it comes to motion sickness over the years. When I was a teenager, I used to be able to read in the car and it would never bother me. And I didn’t even realize I’d developed a problem with motion sickness until about ten years ago when I moved to Michigan with my husband and kids. I was sitting in the car and riding the ferry across the bay where we lived, and even though I was in the car, safely from the water, I could still get that feeling in the pit of my stomach of that awful churning sensation. I would’ve sworn I was pregnant if I didn’t know better. And then, not long after that, I was on a hayride with my kids, riding to the pumpkin patch to pick out our Halloween pumpkins to carve, and I literally

had to get off the ride, after only a few minutes, and walk the rest of the way because otherwise I was very likely going to be sick all over everyone.

My husband likes to ride in boats and I’ve been hesitant to go with him on his cousin’s boat, because I believed the motion sickness would have me heaving over the side of it the whole time, so I was determined to find something that would work to help keep the motion sickness at bay. I bought Seaband Ginger Gumanti for $5. I was surprised to see that it was a gum! I thought for sure it was going to be some chewable pill or something. I’d heard that ginger was great for motion sickness, but I’d never much cared for the taste of it, so when I found out it was in gum-form, I was a little worried that ...

And, honestly, the taste wasn’t great. The box said it was supposed to be “great tasting”, but the boxes of cough syrup say that too and we all know how disgusting that stuff is no matter what additional flavors they throw in there. The gum didn’t even have the consistency of a normal piece of gum either. It wasn’t that chewy, was even a little bit grainy at times. We were going to be out on the boat all day, though, so I brought the whole box with me. Luckily, the taste didn’t interfere with the other foods we brought with us, and I could take out one piece of gum, eat my lunch and then, afterwards, pop in another piece of gum. The taste was bareable enough that I didn’t mind it, but it certainly wasn’t as nice as

a regular piece of gum. But, most importantly, I found that it really did work to keep the motion sickness at bay. With the very first piece of gum, that I popped into my mouth before I even stepped on the pier, I knew it was working, because even stepping on a pier that kind of floats on the water and moves around would’ve been enough to make me feel a little queasy, and I didn’t feel that at all. Great product that I will always have on me any time I take a flight, hayride or boat ride. I can even read a book while riding in a car if I have a piece of this gum to chew on. I wish the taste was a little better, and it had a more normal gum consistency, but at least it’s better than chewing on straight ginger, and it gets the job done.
