  • The biggest problem with this movie is, while it is funny for a few minutes after he arrives on the planet and causes a planet-wide panic because the aliens there think he is a monster, the movie does plateau about halfway through and, while there are still some laughs, it gets a bit mundane and predictable
  • I think she was waiting for something great to happen and, when it didn’t, she was wondering if there was something better she could be doing
  • Because of this, Planet 51 is the one movie I watched this past weekend that I would not recommend renting

I have seen several previews for the movie Planet 51 and thought it would be a movie that wouldn’t be nearly as good as advertised. I was right about this.

The movie, which stars Dwayne Johnson as the voice of an astronaut who lands on a mysterious planet only to discover it is already occupied, had some funny moments, but, overall, it was a bit of a snorefest

      too.

The biggest problem with this movie is, while it is funny for a few minutes after he arrives on the planet and causes a planet-wide panic because the aliens there think he is a monster, the movie does plateau about halfway through and, while there are still some laughs, it gets a bit mundane and predictable.

Even my daughter, who really wanted to see this movie, seemed ...

      • to think so.

Normally, she’ll sit perfectly still during animated movies like this.

But, halfway through, she was obviously getting antsy.

I think she was waiting for something great to happen and, when it didn’t, she was wondering if there was something better she could be doing.

The only scenes she really liked were the ones involving Rover.

And, even those scenes got a bit old after a

        while.

I did like the fact the movie managed to be somewhat original.

Hollywood is getting known more for re-makes than originality lately so any effort to do something new is a welcome relief.

But, even that didn’t do much to make this movie anything special.

If anything, it was very forgettable.

Because of this, Planet 51 is the one movie I watched this past weekend that I would not recommend renting.
