Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP is a suite of applications, developed by Microsoft to add or extend the Windows XP functionalities. There are many PowerToys available for download, there is one named color control that helps users manage color settings, one to view RAW image files, one to create an HTML slide show of digital pictures, one to resize multiple images at once so they can easily be sent by e-mail, an advance calculator with much more features than the one included with windows, a virtual desktop manager so there’s a way of having multiple desktop as on Linux, a webcam timershot and some others. PowerToys

are simple but great applications that make some tasks easier and it is great that they come directly from Microsoft. That showed that they cared about their Windows XP customers.

I knew PowerToys because I needed to resize a bunch images and resizing them one by one would have taken me an eternity. I knew that could be done with just one command on Linux but I wanted to use Windows for that and a Google search lend me to the PowerToys site. I was very pleased with the Image Resizer PowerToy because it is very easy to use, to resize images all that is needed is ...

      • to select all files, right-click on them and select resize images, then on the dialog box just select the desired resolution and that’s all. The truth is along with the resolution it also reduce the quality of the pictures but that’s fine (on most cases) because the resulting files have the ideal size to send them over an e-mail. I use some other PowerToys: Power Calculator, Virtual Desktop Manager, Webcam Timershot and Open Command Window Here. And all are great. Power Calculator should have been included on Windows XP by default because it’s way better than windows calculator, I used to use it to graph equations
and solve matrixes. The Virtual Desktop Manager is another awesome PowerToy because it make available virtual desktops for Windows, like the ones found on any Linux distribution. Webcam Timershot is ideal to have the pictures uploaded to a webserver, that way using a simple webcam it’s possible to keep an eye around the computer’s desk. Open Command Window Here is another great PowerToy, specially for those who like using the command line a lot, as I do.

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP really improve the Windows XP experience. I don’t understand why Microsoft didn’t released any PowerToys set for Windows Vista and Windows Seven.

The whole set of PowerToys gets a 10.
