Opened in 2005 in the location provided in the address of this restaurant, today Red Kimono has spurred the opening of four branches in Luzon and one in Cebu City. The name speaks of an obvious cuisine offered in this place. What else to expect other than the fresh choices of sushi and tempura. But there is more in Red Kimono.

The place in The Fort has zen-like interior, conceptualizing the Japanese ambiance. The entire concept is so pleasing for me. This restaurant claims that it serves modern Japanese cuisine. As regards the place, the difference is you will use chairs unlike traditional Japanese restaurants which has low tables, you will take off your shoes, have cushions on the floor, this one is the traditional restaurant set up. The question

goes if it diminishes Japanese culture and practice by using high chairs. It does not for me. I think this in keeping that Japanese cuisine is what makes this restaurant Japanese however the approach in terms of dinning is conventional and does not practice traditional Japanese dinning policy. Regarding the tables, the plate and the chopsticks, it is clean and all right. I would have wanted they will serve chopsticks rest to make it convenient.

The food is also one of the things which makes it modern Japanese. It is Japanese but it has twist of Filipino culture in it. This makes the cuisine unique and mouth watering. There are few picks which I can recommend for starters. The dish “Gyoza” is a very smart alternative to the traditional dumplings. This ...

      • is made up of pork and the sauce tickles your palette as you begin your meal. The meat is soft and extraordinarily delicious. There is also one interesting appetizer called “Crabs-stick Rolls”. This is a spring roll type however it uses crab meat as its filling. The essence is in the wasabi sauce which complements it. Of course Sushi is available in this place. There are wide choices from plain tuna, salmon or crab or even egg. When it comes to sushi, I am particular about the freshness and quality of the fish. The quality of their sushi is excellent. They also offer platter for sushi and choices of all kinds of maki. Both are very crispy and fresh. My top picks for seafood is “gindara with sweet miso”. It is very
addictive and delicious. Their “wasabi ouster tempura” is also a good option. Their dessert has the criteria of being a Filipino choice. The presence of buko pandan, chocolate balls, these are sweets which attributes Filipino favorites. As regard the taste of their desserts, I have no complain. It was delicious and highly pleasant.

This restaurant is not pricey contrary to our belief. Most of us are precluded from engaging in a gastronomic treat because we fear it is too expensive. The prices here would range from 2$ or more, plainly average for a high-grade restaurant.

This restaurant is a must try because of its unique blend of Japanese cuisine. Being in the Philippines, its a great deal of experience having both Japanese culture and taste combined with Filipino homemade cooking and hospitality.
