  • The texture of mashed potatoes are a big reason why I enjoy having them with my meal
  • The other reason is the flavor of the mashed potatoes, and that too unfortunately was lacking from these boxed potatoes

I didn’t think these boxed mashed potatoes would be as disappointing as they turned out to be because the box states that this boxed mix is made with one-hundred percent real mashed potatoes and that they are naturally flavored. I knew that the boxed potatoes would not be as good as homemade mashed potatoes, but I was expecting them to be better than

      they actually came out.

The first thing that bothered me was that these mashed potatoes weren’t real creamy of fluffy or smooth.

They were kind of blocky and chalky in texture.

To CirclingCanvas, I am not sure what you meant when you said “the addition of only water didn’t help the flavor of these mashed potatoes either”, regarding the Hungry Jack Instant Potatoes. My boxes of Hungry Jack Potatoes call for water, milk, and salt so I’m really not sure what you’re talking about. I make Hungry Jack Instant Mashed Potatoes all the time, and they are the only instant potato that fools people into thinking they are real. Mine come out creamy and fluffy every single time, and people rave about them. Everyone asks me how I manage to mash my potatoes so well, and I have to laugh. And, when I want my Hungry Jack Potaotoes to be richer, creamier fluffier, I substitute Half Half or evaporated milk in place of regular milk. I give Hungry Jack Instant Potatoes a 10 rating. I haven’t mashed a potato since I discovered them, and none of my family or friends even notice. They’re the YUMMIEST

It has been years since I wrote this review and I can’t recall if perhaps there was a different variation of the potatoes or if they had different preparation instructions at the time, as I haven’t bought them since. I know that some mixes, like pancakes for example, can be purchased where only water is required, while others carried under the same brand require eggs, milk and some other ingredients. Hungry Jack has a pancake mix just like that, with two variations. At any rate, I’m happy that you enjoyed the mashed potatoes, because I’d rather hear of someone enjoying something rather than disliking something

Just a quick reply. I’ve been using Hungry Jack Instant Mashed Potatoes for about 30 years. The recipe and the taste has remained the same all these years. Love them

That’s good. Some products come and go with time while others change with time. It’s nice to find a product that you can continue to enjoy year after year after year, like this one for you. Maybe someone else will try them for the first time because of your recommendation and also enjoy them for many years to come. Never know.
