Arusha Tanzania
  • The cook was also great, always smiling and laughing- and cooked us deliciously simple african style meals, starting with Popcorn every night as an appetizer

I recently went on safari through Serengeti National Park as well as the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. These are both world renowned for their majestic wildlife and stunning views.

If you are planning on going on safari in Tanzania then you are probably headed to Arusha as that is the starting point for most safaris in the country.

The city is plagued with seemingly hundreds of companies, and we ended up with SOKO Safari Company.

      The

owners are extremely friendly and warm and really make an effort to give back to the community by taking orphanage kids on one day safaris to nearby national parks for free.

They offer several options for safaris and we opted for the 3 day, 2 night camping safari.

The deal comes with a knowledgable driver who shared much information about the various animals.

He could spot animals from very far away too, seeing the tail of a ...

      • leopard in a tree from a distance.

He made sure that we saw all the big five and many more species before we left the parks.

The cook was also great, always smiling and laughing- and cooked us deliciously simple african style meals, starting with Popcorn every night as an appetizer! mmmmmm….

The camping was in campgrounds inside the serengeti (you could hear the lions calling in the distance as we went to bed) and then at

a spot on the lip of the crater.

I woke up in the night to a herd of buffalo grazing between the tents! Truly awesome.

We left early in the mornings so we could watch the sunrise and ate bag lunches on the road.

This company is not the cheapest option in town, but they really are good people who offer a great service and give back to the community.

(We paid ~400/person with 6 of us in the vehicle)
