For the first time, Ray Bradbury, from whose mind all of these episodes come from, does a unique introduction to his story. He talks more about how he gets ideas. I love these introductions. In the show’s first cable season, there were six episodes and only two had these beginnings. I think they really add to the episode so I’m hoping to see

more when I get to the other seasons

From February 1986, The Ray Bradbury Theater: The Town Where No One Got Off features Jeff Goldblum as a writer named Cogswell who is traveling on a train. Talking to a stranger, he’s challenged to follow through on his assertions, so he does. He gets off at the next small town, wanting to experience the things he’s always ...

      • wondering about.

The problem is that the town is full of very cold people who don’t take to him at all. They won’t even talk to him. Everywhere he goes, people shut their shudders and lock their doors. We walk around with him for quite a while as he takes in the inhospitality of his surroundings. The exception is one man who says he’s been

waiting for Cogswell for a very long time. It’s all quite disconcerting.

The crux of the story ends up being a really eerie face off between Cogswell and an old man. It’s intense and unexpected when it begins, and frankly, I wasn’t sure how it was going to end.

Goldblum was brilliant. He had to be to pull off this part in The Town Where No One Got Off.
