When we adopted our puppy, there were a lot of things to consider, and food was definitely near the top of the list. The rescue group who kept him had fed him a cheaper brand of food, since they had so many dogs to feed on such a tight budget. We were hoping to get him adjusted to a finer brand.

We tried several different brands, from Nutro to Royal Canin and many in-between, but even with gradually introducing these new foods to him by carefully working them into his diet, it seemed like every food we

tried upset his stomach. The vet suggested we try a formula of Science Diet that was meant for extra-sensitive stomachs, but while that was somewhat better, it didn’t clear things up entirely, and we were still stuck dealing with puppy diarrhea.

By chance, we picked up a bag of Purina One dry puppy food, lamb and rice formula, because a friend had once told us their dog would only eat that. At this point, we thought it was worth a try.

And within two days, everything seemed better! Our puppy was back to solid stools, a happy ...

      • belly, and a lot more energy. He started gaining weight much faster than he had been, and best of all he loved the food! While he liked the taste of the Nutro, most of the other ones we had tried he would nose around in for a while before grudgingly gulping it down in tiny bites. We had to start putting a tennis ball in his bowl to keep him from gulping down the Purina One too fast (the ball is big enough that he has to push it around to get to his food,
so he can’t swallow such big mouthfuls and thus risk swallowing air).

We were thrilled to see how much cheaper Purina One is than some other dog foods. I truly feel like everyone won here. The food doesn’t smell too bad, and the dry kibble pieces seem small enough to be manageable for just about any size puppy. We keep the food in a sealing plastic container, so we can buy it in bulk and it keeps for a long time.

I would highly recommend this food to anyone with a picky puppy or one with a grumpy belly!
