The Fair Haired Child, directed by William Malone, is an entertaining entry into the Masters of Horror series. I love this series of hour long films from Showtime and wish it hadn’t gone off the air. I love how it took the spirit of old eighties shows like Freddy’s Nightmare’s and Monsters and took it to a whole other level. Staples of the horror genre like Argento, Carpenter and Hooper all have contributed and while nothing’s perfect I have

      overall enjoyed the series.

The Fair Haired Child is one of the quirkier, almost fairy tale like story. Tara is on her way home from school on her bike when she is kidnapped. She awakens in a hospital where a decidedly spooky nurse is tending to her needs. Soon though she finds out that nothing is as it seems and the creepy nurse is really a crazed mother trying to get her son back.

I thought this movie was a good ...

      • one and everyone involved did a great job acting. Lori Petty stars as the insane, selfish mother who has made a grim deal with the devil to get her son back. Her husband Anton is losing his grip unable to cope with his son’s death or the greusome price to be paid for getting him back. The film had decent special effects and nice atmospher as well.

I love how the story develops and the characters are well developed with

what little screen time an hour really is. I really had a lot of empathy for Tara, her new friend Johnny and the whole situation. I thought this was almost like a Grimm fairytale. Definitely macabre but also oddly romantic in a way. It’s like a combination of Beauty and the Beat and Cinderella if she had a pill popping mom who abandoned her.

I definitely think this is worth checking out and its one of the better entries into the series.
