Rockstar Games’s newest release, Red Dead Redemption, has been anticipated for quite some time now, and after purchasing it, I’d say it has lived up to all of the hype.

Having just beat the main story mode yesterday, I can say that I was deeply satisfied with the experience that this game brought to the table. The world felt real and detailed, the characters (not to mention the voice acting) were believable and had depth, and the overall gameplay, while occasionally buggy, was consistently enjoyable.

Going beyond the main story, there’s tons to do and distract yourself with. You can hunt

all sorts of animals, from armadillos to grizzly bears; you can take on side quests from random people on the road or in towns; you can gamble, trade, get (virtually) drunk, complete challenges, and more. Hell, just wandering around the huge open-world environment and seeing the sights is enjoyable enough.

Red Dead Redemption’s multiplayer mode is also pretty fun. While I haven’t delved too deeply into it just yet, I can say that playing the free-roam mode is a blast with other people. As for the competitive aspect, there are several gametypes that are, while pretty standard (deathmatch, team deathmatch,

      • capture the flag, etc.), quite enjoyable.

Pros: *Graphics are fantastic; riding on a steed through RDR’s beautiful environments truly makes you feel as though you’re there.

*Open world environments are huge and make you feel as if you are a cowboy in the Old West.

*Story and characters make you want to play up to the thrilling conclusion.

        * Multiplayer is fun whether you’re free-roaming with 15 other players or pitted against them in competitive modes.

Cons: *There are a few minor bugs that are noticeable in the game (sometimes the protagonist will start walking away when you don’t want him to,

and one entire cut-scene in the game had no audio while the characters had a conversation).

*Well, I can’t think of much else that was wrong, actually.

Conclusion: Red Dead Redemption is a fantastic game that has truly delivered on all the of hype that has been surrounding it. Everything about it is excellent, apart from the few, yet noticeable, bugs. However, while playing, I never found those bugs to be of any real nuisance. Overall, I enjoyed the game immensely, and would recommend it to anyone who’s a video game fan. You don’t have to be a western aficionado to appreciate everything that this game has to offer.
