The Leopard Gecko is a perfect pet for someone who likes lizards but has never had one. They are easy to care for and interesting to own. The Leopard Gecko is about eight inches long (tail included) at maturity.

They are a beige color with dark brown dots and bumpy skin. As babies, they are smoother with brown bands that break up into dots as the mature.

have a small claw at the end of each toe, and cannot climb vertical surfaces as most geckos can. The Leopard Gecko is an asian desert creature.

He likes warmth and sand. Set up his cage with a sandy substrate, a place to hide, and a heat rock.

He will lay on or near the heat rock after eating to help him digest his food. You can also ...

      • set up a special heat lamp (found at pet stores) on one side of his cage for basking.

Just be sure he can get out of the heat, and it is not constant (put it on a timer or turn it off at night). Leopard Geckos are carnivores and will not eat anything that does not move.

A diet of crickets and meal worms should suffice. Some will

        eat pinky mice.

Visit your local pet store to see what they have to offer. When picking out a Leopard Gecko, check its eyes and tail.

A healthy gecko will have a fat tail, indicating it has been feed well (they store fat in their tail). The eyes should be alert and clear.

Leopard Geckos can be quite tame if you handle them frequently. They can live 12+ years if properly cared for.
