The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-time, a novel written by Mark Haddon, is an extraordinary glimpse into the world of a young boy with Asperger’s Syndrome. The author has taken his experience working with individuals with autism to create a story narrated by the autistic main character, fifteen year old Christopher Boone.

Christopher’s world is one of routine and minimal social interaction.

      This

changes one night when he finds his neighbor’s dog dead and he is blamed for the death.

Feeling that the real killer should have to pay for the crime committed, and upon hearing that the case is not being taken seriously by the police, he decides to track down the killer himself.

For help he turns to his favorite fictional character, Sherlock Holmes.

      As he pushes ...

      • himself out of his emotional comfort zone to look for clues, he finds out that there are much more upsetting things to face than the death of the dog.

This novel is emotional, yet funny at times.

A great mystery seen through the eyes of a fifteen year old boy with a condition that few without it could understand.

As someone with Asperger’s Syndrome, I was

amazed at the author’s ability to get into the mind of an autistic individual.

I related to many of the views of Christopher, being sympathetic at times, and other times being proud of what he pushed himself to accomplish, knowing myself how extremely difficult it can be.

I highly reccomend this book to anyone who would like a glimpse into the mind of someone in the autistic spectrum.
